The village of Tárbena perches high in the mountains, 560 metres above sea level. You can glimpse the Mediterranean and the coast line from here, with the tower blocks of Benidorm glistening in the distance, but few people realise that within 30 minutes’ drive from the coast you find yourself in a completely different world.
Life flows by at a leisurely pace in this traditional Spanish village.
The scenery is dramatic and many of the mountain trails start from the door.
Olive and almond groves cover the terraces, oranges grow in abundance and each season produces something special to tempt the taste buds:
figs, avocados, grapes and pomegranites to name a few.
And why not try the locally produced sausages and honey, all to be found in the village shop or at the weekly market.
Number 45 is located a short stroll from the main square, where you can sample the local dishes, try some tapas and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of rural life in this interesting and picturesque village, where a traditional way of life continues unchanged.
The roads are good, despite the hairpin bends, and travel time from Alicante airport is only 90 minutes by car. Also the airport of Valencia is reachable in under two hours.
Visit the beautiful beaches of Benidorm and revel in the fun and frolics of this resort. Or chose the elegant seaside town of Altea, both just 30 mins drive from Tárbena.
Fantastic place to stay! Sally is a wonderful host that relly made us feel at home. Her house is stylish, elegant, cozy, decorated with love and attention to details. Nice fireplace area, several cozy terraces, a lovely pool and superb rooms. Everything, from arrival to delicious breakfast was impecable!
Tàrbena is a nice place to visit, the house is also a very nice place to stay but what made our stay exceptional was Sally (and her "doggy girls"). From the very beginning she made us feel at home. We enjoyed her breakfasts, the time that we spent together around the fireplace and all her advices about the places to visit, eat, etc. We highly recommend her house and we are looking forward to meeting her again. Thanks for your hospitality!
My father and I stay with Sally for 3 nights, and it was absolutely amazing! We came in the winter time, so the weather was quite cold, but the place was still breathtakingly beautiful. Sally was the greatest host, super sweet and welcoming. I am normally a bit critical, but I have nothing else to say than go and experience Tárbena, you won't regret it. I will defiantly come back and I already miss Sally a little.
The menu is typical but if you have specific dietary requirements just let us know when you book.
Vegan options are normally available but let us know what you prefer.
The pool is available through the year and is for the exclusive use of guests.
The area attracts cyclists, from teams in training for the Olympics to amateur cyclists, and they are often seen whizzing up (or not!) the mountains in the warm winter sunshine. For those interested in a cycling holiday, there are many bicycle hire shops and I also offer secure storage for bikes at the house.
