The coastal walks, glittering sea and dramatic headlands are well worth investigating. And of course, don’t forget the swimsuit!

The area attracts many cyclists from enthusiastic amateurs to professional teams training for the Tour de France, La Vuelta and the Olympics. For those interested in a cycling holiday, there are many bicycle hire shops and we also offer secure storage for bikes at the house.

Every season is special here and worth a visit. The climate is ideal throughout the year for those who enjoy outdoor activities or for those who just want to relax and take in the scenery. The village is perfectly situated to use as a base for hiking and cycling in the mountains. During January and February the terraces around Tárbena are particularly spectacular when the almond trees are in blossom and the mountains turn pink. Wild flowers abound and bird song is often the only sound you can hear when waking in the morning. The house is a couple of minutes' walk from the village centre where you will find a small supermarket, 2 bakers, a chemist, doctor’s surgery, bank and ATM cash machines.

There is a good choice of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, many offering very reasonably priced regional dishes and tapas. The restaurants are open until late in the summer months but the choice becomes limited during the rest of the year as most are closed in the evenings. Lunch time “menús del día” are offered all year round and are excellent value for money (I have tried them all.... just for the sake of market research!) 7 to 15 Euros per person for 3 or 4 courses including wine and coffee is a typical price.

The village has a number of colourful festivals throughout the year. food The main fiesta in honour of Santa Barbera, the patron saint of the village, is held during the first week of August. Do not come to Tárbena for peace and quiet during that week! The whole village celebrates non-stop with music and dancing. Great fun is had by all. 4th December is also in honour of Santa Barbera and the 3 Kings' festival is 4th & 5th January. Lavish Moors and Christians festivals are held throughout the region including the nearby town of Callosa, which holds it's celebrations in October.

And be warned, July and August are hot. During these two months the time drifts by soaking up the Mediterranean sunshine and lazing by the pool but by midday anything more strenuous than lifting a glass to the lips can be too much effort. It’s too hot for long treks in mid summer but get up early and wander along the trails, breathe in the scent of wild fennel and rosemary, and you will feel on top of the world.

Fantastic place to stay! Sally is a wonderful host that relly made us feel at home. Her house is stylish, elegant, cozy, decorated with love and attention to details. Nice fireplace area, several cozy terraces, a lovely pool and superb rooms. Everything, from arrival to delicious breakfast was impecable!

Tàrbena is a nice place to visit, the house is also a very nice place to stay but what made our stay exceptional was Sally (and her "doggy girls"). From the very beginning she made us feel at home. We enjoyed her breakfasts, the time that we spent together around the fireplace and all her advices about the places to visit, eat, etc. We highly recommend her house and we are looking forward to meeting her again. Thanks for your hospitality!

My father and I stay with Sally for 3 nights, and it was absolutely amazing! We came in the winter time, so the weather was quite cold, but the place was still breathtakingly beautiful. Sally was the greatest host, super sweet and welcoming. I am normally a bit critical, but I have nothing else to say than go and experience Tárbena, you won't regret it. I will defiantly come back and I already miss Sally a little.
